Getafe get out of jail in Germany as Bayern are stunned

It is advantage Getafe at the halfway stage of their Uefa Cup quarter-final tie with Bayern Munich, courtesy of Cosmin Contra's last minute strike that gave the Spaniards a 1-1 draw from a tough trip to Germany. Contra's away goal could prove crucial as Bayern now travel to Spain to face Michael Laudrup's talented side in the knowledge they must score or relinquish their European dream. Luca Toni had given Bayern a deserved first half lead that their superiority in the opening 45 minutes merited, but an improved performance after the interval saw Getafe restore parity. At the hub of much of Bayern's best work was the irrepressible Franck Ribery, with both the Frenchman and Bastian Schweinsteiger going close to opening the scoring. It was the latter that proved the architect for Bayern's goal, as he swung in a deep corner that Toni dispatched with an archetypal thumping header. Bayern would have hoped to build on Toni's effort but on the contrary, it was Getafe that were buoyed into action as Philip Lahm was forced to clear a Mario effort off the line.

Kahn error

In the second half Ribery and Toni were guilty of squandering gilt-edged opportunities, while for the away side Javier Casquero was hurried in his finish when well placed. A mistake from Oliver Kahn presented Manu with a glorious chance to level but he headed against the post, leaving Contra to emerge as Getafe's hero. In the game's dying embers Kahn charged out of his area and presented an opportunity to Contra, who with a clever lobbed finish put Getafe back in the driving seat for a semi-final berth.
