Gers ace would find Sporting hard to refuse

Rangers midfielder Pedro Mendes has reiterated his desire to join Sporting Lisbon in the January transfer window. The no-nonsense Portuguese midfielder has been tipped to leave Ibrox to help ease the club's crippling debt mountain. Sporting have been linked with a bid for the ex-Portsmouth man, but as yet no fee has been agreed with the SPL giants. Mendes, like everyone else, is awaiting news on his future, stating only that he would find it difficult to reject Sporting. "I am awaiting news on what might happen," he told the Scottish Sun. "It would be difficult to reject a move to Sporting because I am Portuguese and this move could have a big influence on my family life." Mendes would have no qualms seeing out the remaining 18 months on his contract, but is leaving the door on his future open. "It's not the first time I've been asked about this but I can't confirm anything," he continued. "I'm leaving the door open to hear offers that may interest me and the club."
