Verdict

Reverence gets the call here from a shortlist that also contains Bahamian Pirate and Green Manalishi. Reverence was progressive last season and began this campaign with a fine Listed-race third to Les Arcs at Redcar; he should go well today. Bahamian Pirate won the Nunthorpe Stakes back in 2004, although that was the last time he has won a race; however, he won this race in 2004 and ran well enough at times last season to suggest that he can still be a force at this level. Cape Royal has also won over course and distance and is now 13 pounds better off for the seven lengths that he finished behind the selection at Doncaster last season, although the selection, whose early career was marred by injury, looks the more progressive. Applying literal Turf and All-weather form using Les Arcs as the go-between then Green Manalishi is weighted to get close to the selection, but If Paradise has three lengths or so to find. The winner should come from one of the horses already mentioned, with our preference being for Reverence.
