Verdict

Last-year's second CAPTAIN DUNNE has been aimed at this race once again and can go one place better; the rather long list of dangers includes Bertoliver, Rocket Rob, Fathom Five and also last-year's winner Indian Trail. Tim Easterby's gelding has been in good form since the turn of the year, with runs priming him for this assignment. He is 5lb higher in the weights and a middle draw may not be ideal but with (the ox) Jimmy Fortune in the saddle he will get every encouragement to hold on when he is gasping for air late on. The weights are headed by Masta Plasta, one of five Dandy Nicholls runners in the contest. His recent Beverley second looks strong, whilst Indian Trail needs tons of luck in running and things may not pan out as well as they did a year ago. Moorhouse Lad is classy and not ignored off a mark of 97 with Jim Crowley booked, Oldjoesaid caught the eye last time and hasn't been with Kevin Ryan for long, whilst Jaconet is a wonderful mare but this looks a tough assignment. Glamorous Spirit looks nicely-handicapped on this return to the turf, Hawkeyethenoo is progressive but might just be run off his feet, whilst Fathom Five holds several of these on his win here in April. Bertoliver is quick on his day and he looks a fairly-handicapped horse off bottom-weight however course form counts for plenty here and so we are happy to salute Captain Dunne.
