Verdict

Previous experience of the flying five at Epsom is a huge advantage in sprints over the minimum distance - a factor that aided HOLBECK GHYLL who finished fourth in this race last season. William Buick took the gelding to the front approaching the furlong marker and the result never looked in doubt from that point onwards. "He jumped out well from the stalls and picked up inside the final furlong." said Buick. The six-year-old has now won three of his four starts this season and he appears to be going from strength to strength. Merlin's Dancer has also run in this race before (finished eighth in the last two renewals) and came very close to breaking his duck at Epsom. He may have preferred faster ground, so this was a solid effort from him. Safari Mischief copes well with these idiosyncratic courses and was doing sterling work near the finish. He is due to go up 3lb in future handicaps and may struggle from now on. Last year's winner Hogmaneigh lso motored into top gear near the line and looks to be running into form hile Masta Plasta is also in great heart just now and has obviously thrived since joining David Nicholls' yard. There was also plenty to like about the effort from Fathom Five who is proving to be consistent and versatile regarding the ground. Bond City and Northern Empire ran to form but are hard to win with at the present time.
