Verdict

MAC GILLE EOIN will have been aimed at this race for some time and John Gallagher's gelding is fancied to see off Baldemar, Olynard and Secret Witness. Twelve months ago Baldemar beat (2008 winner) Mac Gille Eoin by a head and has since joined Richard Fahey. In anyone's eyes that would be hard to see as a poor career move but on 5lb better terms Mac Gille Eoin can gain revenge. Chris Catlin looks a good jockey booking for this son of Bertolini and on ideal ground he must go close. Fol Hollow is a winner over this trip but his best distance is arguably five furlongs as he showed when beating Captain Dunne (goes in the Dash at 3.15) at Thirsk, Run For The Hills was a good third at Newmarket last time out and his Goodwood experience should stand him in good stead, whilst Everymanforhimself has something to prove over this trip but is still interesting with Ryan Moore booked for the ride. Flipando is a strong finisher but the line might not come in time, Olynard caught the eye at Chepstow in a good race won by Captain Carey and the return to six furlongs will suit, whilst Parisian Pyramid is only 3lb higher than when winning at Goodwood last time when well-backed to do so. Aye Aye Digby and We Have A Dream are not ignored, along with Abraham Lincoln who looks a different horse after the application of cheek-pieces. Secret Witness and the dangerously-handicapped Red Cape are intriguing at the foot of the weights, however the vote of (minimal) confidence is given to Mac Gille Eoin. Nic Doggett.
