Verdict

Several jockeys will be hoping that they've chosen correctly but we will take a chance on MIDAS TOUCH providing Colm O'Donoghue with his first Epsom winner ahead of stablemate Jan Vermeer and the rather exciting pair of Workforce and Rewilding. Although the second string of the Ballydoyle runners, this Galileo colt really made an impression when winning the Derrinstown Stud Trial last month. Despite the small field it was a truly run race and although he may lack the explosive turn of foot of Jan Vermeer, he looks sure to be staying on well at the line. Favourite Jan Vermeer has twice been in front of the selection and he was very impressive when sauntering home in the Gallinule Stakes under his Group One penalty. That may have not been a stellar field but this Criterium International winner is a class act and the longer trip today may bring out even more improvement. Rewilding is one of several horses who have been supplemented for this; Mahmood Al Zarooni's colt impressed when tackling the undulations of Goodwood in the Cocked Hat Stakes and this son of Tiger Hill was adored by Andre Fabre when trained in France last year. Workforce blitzed a solid field at Goodwood as a juvenile and then ran a great trial in the Dante considering the bit slipped through his mouth - he still finished second. His trainer is a Derby master and the son of King's Best wouldn't be in this field if he wasn't fancied to run a huge race. Without being harsh Ted Spread has his class to prove, Hot Prospect looks limited in terms of this line-up, whilst Coordinated Cut had the race run to suit in the Dante but was well held and he needs to find something extra for this longer trip. Of more interest then is Bullet Train who quickened nicely when winning the Lingfield Trial last month. He didn't beat much in behind but again his trainer is a master at finding horses who suit this course. Azmeel was given a good ride to win at Chester but that form is below the standard needed, although there may still be improvement to come from John Gosden's runner. Finally Al Zir is not ignored now stepping up in trip with the rather surprising booking of Kieren Fallon.
