Mark Wilson says Doncaster's promotion did not influence his decision to sign a new contract.

Mark Wilson says Doncaster Rovers' promotion to the Championship did not influence his decision to sign a new contract. The midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at the Keepmoat Stadium after agreeing terms earlier in the week. His previous deal had expired at the end of the season and there were other clubs interested in the former Manchester United youngster. However, Wilson had no qualms in committing his future to the club, and would have stayed even if Rovers were still playing in League One.

Delighted

"I'm delighted to be here for another two years," Wilson told the club's official website. "I've enjoyed the past year and a half/two years and I am happy to have signed so that I can continue playing for Doncaster Rovers. "It was more of a case of the environment and the people that I am surrounded by, as opposed to the lure of Championship football. "Even if we had stayed in League One last season, I would have been more tempted to stay put - whether Championship clubs came in for me or not."
