Gers boss happy defender is set to commit future to club
Walter Smith is confident promising defender Danny Wilson will soon sign a new contract to stay with SPL leaders Rangers.
Wilson has burst onto the scene this season and has made 22 first-team appearances for the Gers since making his debut last October.
Though he was sent off in last weekend's Co-operative Insurance Cup final win over St Mirren, the teenager scored his first goal for the club in Saturday's 4-1 victory at Hearts.
With John Fleck having signed a new deal at Ibrox on Friday, Gers boss Smith believes Wilson will follow suit in the coming days after talks between his representative and chief executive Martin Bain.
Delighted
"It's good that John has signed on and we hope Danny will do the same," said Smith.
"I'm delighted that the young boys are staying with us and hopefully negotiations over a deal with Danny will be completed next week.
"There were one or two things that Martin had to speak to his agents about, but hopefully we can complete that this week at some stage.
"He's had quite a few opportunities in recent matches to score and he will be a little bit disappointed that he didn't get that goal prior to today, but getting it today was good.
"Coming here, you are always hoping to get off to a good start and he got us an early one. You've got to say, for a young player, he is doing exceptionally well for us at the moment."
