      In depth

      Verdict

Vortex is on a roll and is taken to complete a five-timer, with last year's winner and stablemate Te Quiero, Mi Odds and Bonecrusher just three dangers in the Lincoln Trial. Although Vortex is not actually entered for the Doncaster curtain-raiser it is hard to escape his claims here, as he has been impossible to master since the fitting of an eye shield last summer. He loves the course and distance and is still not badly treated despite his four wins, having gone up just a total of 16lbs in all. He collared Caroubier in the closing stages last time and only does enough, making it hard for the handicapper to get a real grip and is again the one to beat. Te Quiro won this race 12 months ago and looks to have been primed for a repeat judged on his return to form when a close second to Consonant last time. He will line up on a seven-pound higher mark than last year but gives the stable another strong hand. He is entered for the Lincoln along with his other stablemate Lygeton Lad who was fourth here last year, and who is reported in rude health as well. Of the rest, Mi Odds looked the part when landing a conditions event here last time and of course David Loder will always be a threat so Bonecrusher should be noted as he is running into form at just the right time. Ayr Gold Cup winner Quito came back to form last month and 2001 Lincoln hero Nimello has sneaked in at the bottom of the weights here. A good race in which Vortex can score again.
