In depth

Verdict

Sister Maria, Don Pietro and Clear Sailing form the shortlist in this handicap and narrow preference is for Sister Maria. This 3-year-old filly from the Ed Dunlop yard routed her rivals last time at Windsor when beating Doubly Guest and although she has more on her plate here today, the manner of that success suggests that she is one to stay on the right side of. Don Pietro was a little disappointing on his seasonal reappearance but he put in a much better effort last time at Kempton when third behind Samarinda. His only career win came on similar ground to this so he should be capable of making the frame. Clear Sailing was disappointing on his return to action last time at Sandown after an impressive success in a maiden at Nottingham last year. However, he may have needed the run that day and he is unexposed so it would be no surprise to see him go well. Veiled Applause is from a yard that have been firing on all cylinders of late so could go well at a price, but Sistar Maria bolted up last time and she may be good enough to follow-up.
