Unnefer is preferred to Pampas Cat. Henry Cecil's charge stayed on well to make a winning return to action from a useful sort at Newbury before finding only Derby fancy Tajaaweed too strong in the Group 3 Dee Stakes on his latest outing. There was no disgrace in that defeat and that form sets the standard. Pampas Cat is respected as he was impressive when winning a maiden over course and distance on debut before stepping up in grade to contest the Chester Vase. He failed to handle the track and failed to land a blow but that run should have taught him plenty and the yard took this race with Lucarno last year. Gaspar Van Wittel should see out this longer trip but, perhaps, lacks the scope of some of his rivals whilst Drill Sergeant appears to have it all to do. This is a step up for Age Of Reason but there's been plenty to like about his two performances to date and he couldn't be confidently dismissed but Unnefer is our idea of the winner.
