In depth

Verdict

Alekhine is due to go up 1lb from tomorrow and we should take the hint here and get on, with Ulysees and Jordans Elect others for the short list. The selection has not won since his debut and has certainly not been a consistent sort, so this is a tentative choice. However, his run last time behind Secretary General at Folkestone would give him an outstanding chance if he could repeat it and with conditions that suit he is taken to do so. Ulysees has a greater record of success, including a win here, but this trip is stretching his stamina to its very limits and he is opposed, while Jordans Elect has a clourse and distance win to his name, albeit a while ago now, and is cleraly on the slide. Little else makes much appeal and the suggestion here is Alekhine.
