In depth

Verdict

No four-year-old has won this in 10 years but tonight's two representatives, Indian Icon and ORGILGO BAY, have the form to buck the trend. The former has worked his worked his way through the ranks and completed a hat-trick so is greatly respected though it's the latter who is handed the vote. A close third in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham, he followed an excellent run on the Flat at Bellewstown with a 20 length victory over timber at Downpatrick and doesn't look overburdened. Diplomat won a novice hurdle at the meeting last year and though he hasn't scored subsequently he'll be ready for this but the assessor may just have got to Xsquared, who has been raised a further 2lb despite failing in his hat-trick bid. Bashful Beauty has to be a big threat as he was conceding Cacheofgold 12lb when beating her two lengths at Wexford and the runner-up scored here on Wednesday. The useful Redera had a pipe-opener on the Flat a couple of weeks ago and Tony Martin will have him primed for action.
