Verdict

Mohaayed and Bridget Andrews bid to repeat last year’s success but the top weight has 14lb more to carry having beaten Lisp and Western Ryder in this grade at Ascot this season. Dan Skelton also runs Ch'tibello, who has had a wind operation since running Midnight Shadow to half-a-length over 2m4f at Aintree. Many of the big stables have multiple entries and Mr Adjudicator and Cut The Mustard may offer more value among the Willie Mullins’ trio than the gambled-on Whiskey Sour. Gordon Elliott’s Eclair De Beaufeu has already had a good season while We Have A Dream has a touch of class though the weight to match. Capitaine beat Sternrubin at Taunton while the latter’s trainer, Philip Hobbs, saddles the improving Crooks Peak, though he has a penalty to carry. Saturday’s Imperial Cup winner Malaya declines the opportunity to follow up in this but runner-up MONSIEUR LECOQ takes his chance and can effectively race off a 3lb lower mark. He was only worn down close home at Sandown and is still at the top of his game so another big run is expected if this doesn’t come too soon. Magic Dancer never seems to run a bad race and was a course and distance winner last year but he could have done without a 5lb rise for finishing second in the rearranged Betfair Hurdle at Ascot, though has place claims.
