Verdict

Pillar Of Hercules gets a confident vote over Andmoreagain and the reappearing Reballo, with Atayeb and Jacaranda Ridge expected to acquit themselves well. The selection has long been one to note on the strength of some sterling work on the gallops, and indeed was all the rage on his Newmarket debut last month. That was over a mile, and with a furlong to go he loomed up ominously to dispute the lead, but found little when it mattered, having to settle for second behind Novikov. The drop back to seven-furlongs at this stage of his career should suit Pillar Of Hercules who can begin to repay a small amount of the 400,000gns that he cost at the sales. Reballo was also fancied on his debut at Kempton and ran well in defeat, but that was some 15-months ago, and he is sure to need the run. A bigger danger then may be Andmoreagain, third in division two of the same maiden that the selection contested a month ago. That leg was run in a slightly slower time though, so he will do well to come out on top. Atayeb needs more time based on her two efforts at Goodwood, but she is nicely bred, hailing from the family of Nashwan and Unfuwain, and will improve over further. Basically, if Pillar Of Hercules is to line up in the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood in August , he just has to dispose of this opposition comprehensively. Let us hope that he does!
