In depth

Verdict

Bret Maverick is the pick over Fairly Honest and Rainbow Flame, with Book Of Facts and Bubbly Girl others to consider. Most of these have yet to show any worthwhile form, but Bret Maverick is at least going the right way judged on his latest effort in similar company at Ripon a fortnight ago, and this better ground should enable John Weymes's charge to get losses back. Fairly Honest takes a slight drop in class, and with Seb Sanders booked, will be a popular choice, but his bare form is nothing out of the ordinary. Rainbow Flame has been tried in a visor and blinkers without success and is probably a slow maturing sort, while Book Of Facts has lost his form completely since a promising win on the all-weather last November. Of the remainder, Bubbly Girl is just starting to get the hang of things, but all in all, in a poor race to put before the seaside crowd, Bret Maverick holds all the aces.
