Verdict

The penultimate event on the card, a class D handicap, has the makings of a wide-open affair, in which Fiveoclock Express can pop in again, ahead of African Sahara, Zeuss and Oopsie Daisy. Fiveoclock Express kept good company as a two-year-old, including behind Somnus at Ripon. He has been hard to place since beginning his handicap campaign this term, but finally came good at Wolverhampton 11 days ago, bolting up with the aid of a visor. That showed that his earlier second to Arzoo here at Yarmouth was no fluke, and as long as he handles the fast ground and extra furlong, another bold show is on the cards. African Sahara lost all chance at Epsom when hampered, but had won well at Sandown earlier in what was a slightly better grade contest than this. He is viewed as a long-term Cambridgeshire prospect and should make his presence felt in this company. Zeuss looks nothing special judged on his Lingfield victory in January and a bigger threat may be Oopsie Daisy who benefited from the fitting of cheekpieces when opening her account at Newmarket. Although she failed to add to that at Windsor, James Fanshawe's filly should not be ruled out of calculations. Fiveoclock Express was so impressive last time though that he could well be supporting again here and gets our vote.
