In depth

Verdict

Unless either of the newcomers Aphrodelta or Whitethorne proves to be out of the ordinary, this should go to County Clare who is preferred to Persea. The last mentioned showed improved form when chasing home Stargem in a course and distance maiden last time and a reproduction should see him as the main danger to the selection. Mark Brisbourne's Beveller has some respectable form to his name but is a long-standing maiden and it will be a surprise if he can finally open his account here. Aphrodelta or Whitethorne are both bred to be suited by sprint trips and cannot be dismissed completely but being trained by Peter Cundell and Richard Fahey respectively can be expected to improve with racing and a safer bet looks to be County Clare. Andrew Balding's filly showed enough in maidens on turf last term to suggest that she should be too good for these and is taken to make a winning return.
