Verdict

Always Flying is a speculative choice ahead of the likes of Silver Cache and newcomer Vivre Sa Vie in the maiden. Mark Johnston failed to find the target with Always Flying last year, the son of Fly So Free having raced nine times in all since May. He did not perform too badly when ninth in a competitive Goodwood nursery however, and the ability to win on the all-weather is surely there. Made favourite on his sand debut here in November, he could only run on at the one pace after disputing the lead early on and will be suited by the extra furlong on his first outing since. Silver Cache missed the break and ran green on her Lingfield debut so the switch to the slower fibresand surface might do the trick for Jeremy Noseda¿s filly. Chimes Eight comes from a stable in form, while debutante Vivre Sa Vie should be monitored in the betting, but is sure to improve for the run and when stepped up in distance in time. A tentative vote then goes to Always Flying
