In depth

Verdict

Velvet Shadow can quickly make his mark ahead of Zalimar and City Zone in a race that should not take too much winning. Trainer Noel Chance is much better known for the exploits of his jumpers and we an assume that Velvet Shadow has shown plenty of speed at home to be on the track so early. The son of Soviet Star ran green on his debut at Lingfield recently, but shaped well in finishing fourth to Chief Exec. He has obvious claims and is selected over Zalimar who was unlucky in running behind Triple Two on her Lingfield debut. A good effort by the latter in the 1:25 will advertise her claims, but she should come into her own over further on breeding. City Zone, one of the other newcomers in the line-up, is a well-bred daughter of Zafonic and hails from a decent stable, so any market move for her should be noted. The rest make little appeal on brief evidence so far, and so we shall side with Velvet Shadow.
