In depth

Verdict

This looks a decent enough maoden and we will side with the well touted Greek Well, with stable companion Ask and Detente put forward as the likely danger. Sir Michael Stoute's colt caused a real stir in the Derby betting a few months back when backed from 33/1 down to 7/1 in one afternoon. He had a training setback and has been unable to reach the racecourse until now. If that betting mania is to be believed he is one of the best horses in the Stoute yard and so if fully recovered he should be capable of winning a Windsor maiden. Ask showed plenty of promise when third in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket and with improvement to come he will be a tough nut to crack. Detente is a very interesting newcomer from James Fanshawe's yard. She is by the prolific sire Medicean out of an unraced half-sister to several winners, most notably Nowhere To Exit, a high-class middle distance performer, who finished second in French Derby. If this one is well supported take note. All in all a fascinating contest but if Greek Well lives up to the hype he will not be beaten.
