Gerard Butler seems to be turning a corner with his runners after a torrid spell, so with that in mind, Ragged Jack is fancied to build on what was a promising effort on his reappearance at Lingfield 13 days ago. There are a handful of dangers though and the likes of Here To Me, Anna Panna and Chertsey are all placed on the shortlist of dangers. The first named, a speedily bred sort, has been expensive to follow but ran an encouraging race at Newbury when she was last seen out. The drop back to six furlongs should not be a problem for her and she will be hard to keep out of the frame if she runs up to her best. Anna Panna and Chertsey are others that have shown signs of ability and are worth keeping tabs on whatever happens here. The handicapper may still have a bit of work to do in getting to grips with that unexposed pair and it will be interesting to see how they cope in handicaps. However, this is where our selection comes in, as he sets the standard they all have to aim for today. Off a mark of 72, Ragged Man would not get penalised too much if he were to lead this bunch home. Therefore, it can be considered significant that Butler has kept him to maiden company; probably in the hope that Ragged Man can get a confidence booster before taking on older, more experienced horses in the not too distant future.
