In depth

Verdict

Freeline Fury has shown much improved form of late and any further rain would improve his chance of completing his fourth consecutive success but he is now 11lbs higher than when successful over timber at Towcester in February and he may have to settle for minor honours in a race taken to go to GIOVANNA, who gets the vote ahead of Ashburton Lad. Neil King's gelding lost no caste in defeat on his British debut at Market Rasen last month and he has to be respected off what seems a fair mark on his handicap debut. Brendan Powell's Plane Painter made a promising debut in a handicap last month and he has to be considered. Tom George's Saphire Night has won her last two starts in handicaps but a 7lb penalty for the latest of them at Uttoxeter last week may prevent him from following up and preference is for Giovanna. The selection was a ready winner at Aintree earlier this month and he has solid claims despite a 9lb rise for that success.
