In depth

Verdict

There are only five that catch our eyes here, and they are Ostfanni, Dubonai, Wing Commander, Petrolero and Compton Eclaire, and our vote goes to Ostfanni. The selection was good enough to win over 12 furlongs on the Flat in Ireland, although he was only rated in the 60s in that sphere. However, that looks good enough to make him competitive here and, sure to have been well schooled by Martin Todhunter, this four-year-old can go well. Wing Commander was the best of these on the Flat, achieving a rating in the 90s and proving himself effective at up to 10 furlongs. If he takes to this game, he must go well. Dubonai ran a very good fourth to the impressive Nyrche at Wetherby on his hurdling debut, and a repeat of that brings him firmly into the reckoning. Compton Eclaire, who won over 13 furlongs at Warwick on the Flat but was only rated in the 50s, is another to consider, being from a canny yard. Petrolero showed improved form over course and distance last time from his debut run and could well improve again. Much as Howard Johnson runs two here, neither has shown a tremendous amount of promise and, for that reason, we look elsewhere, with the vote going to Ostfanni.
