In depth

Verdict

Bumptious can add to his Hamilton victory at the expense of Fleetfoot Mac, Turnstile and Nessen Dorma in a competitive affair. Mark Tompkins has his team in good order at present, and the Newmarket handler will be optimistic that Bumptious can improve again for the step up in trip here. The son of Mister Baileys lines up on a mark of 75, and if his stamina lasts out up the hill, he can prevail. Fleetfoot Mac is on a hat-trick after wins at Chepstow and Windsor and has the help of Kieren Fallon. His ability to get the trip on breeding is questionable though, and he has place claims at best. Nessen Dorma has to give weight away all round but galloped on well when scoring at Doncaster the time before last. Trainer James Given has no doubts about his charge's stamina and sees him as a potential Ebor horse next year. Turnstile runs in The Queen's colours and judged by the way that he stayed on behind the odds-on Larkwing at Newmarket, Richard Hannon's colt will not be too long in opening his account. It remains to be seen whether a rating of 74 on this, his first handicap, is too harsh, but he has some scope. For the winner, we side with Bumptious.
