In depth

Verdict

Pearly King is very interesting stepped up to 10 furlongs and gets the vote here ahead of Nihal, Heureux and Participation. True enough, this looks a potentially trappy contest, but Pearly King won quite impressively at Yarmouth last time and on ground similar to today's. He is a progessive sort who looked sure to get further and he looks to have been well placed by Sir Michael Stoute. Nihal receives 3lb and although she has also not been raced beyond a mile she too should appreciate this step up being out of 10f winner Katie McLain. However, she already looks to be no better than fairly treated by the handicapper and may have to wait for another day. Having disappointed on soft ground last time seen in October, Heureux goes on a road here and will benefit from top of the ground, though has to prove that he stays, while Participation should appreciate both the trip and ground and after a useful pipe opener at Kempton he should be spot on and could give the selection most to do. But Pearly King left a good impression last time and can follow up.
