    Verdict

Spear, Danehill Willy and Fongtastic are three against the field in a wide open maiden in which the market will be all important but the tentative vote goes to Spear. The selection is a well-bred half brother to the fairly useful performer Happy Crusader, and is from a yard that has a good strike rate with its two-year-olds and from a good draw he is taken to make a winning debut. Danehill Willy rates the main danger as he was a good second on his debut behind the well regarded Rubyanne and he is sure to have come on for the experience but he gave the impression he would be suited by further and for that reason he is opposed. Fongtastic is another worthy of respect as he was a fair third on his debut behind Comacho and is another sure to improve. Of the remainder Tombola is another well bred sort that is worth noting in the market. Firth showed enough on his debut to suggest he could win a race of this nature but his stable are badly out of form and for the winner we return to Spear.
