In depth

Verdict

Craven Stakes runner-up Metropolitan Man missed a similar engagement at Goodwood yesterday on account of the testing conditions and should have more suitable ground here so gets the vote ahead of Arminius and Bold Alaska. The last mentioned did everything asked of him when landing a course and distance maiden on his debut earlier this month and there should be more to come from Ed Dunlop's colt, who cannot be discounted. Stablemate Illuminise stepped up on his debut effort when landing a seven-furlong maiden here last time and has the assistance of Frankie Dettori. My Amalie is bred to want further and of more interest may be Arminius, who was not disgraced in a similar contest at Windsor last time. Metropolitan Man has easily the best form on offer though and a reproduction of his Craven run should suffice.
