Speciosa, the 2006 1000 Guineas heroine, returns to the scene of her finest moment and is taken to further improve her excellent course record further with a win here. Red Evie, Nannina and Arch Swing are just three others for the shortlist. Pam Sly's filly struck a blow for every small trainer in 2006 but this horse has been acquitting herself very well in defeat of late. This return to a mile looks a good move given the way she ran last time out at the Curragh when getting collared late on, and if the rain continues to fall then she may prove extremely hard to pass up the run-in today. Red Evie shows little at home but comes alive on the racecourse. A winner of 8 or her past 11 starts (including two Group One's), Michael Bell's filly deserves all the respect in the world, especially given the fact that she goes on any ground. Nannina is another top-class filly and showed that she is in good form when landing the Windsor Forest last time out. Arch Swing has disappointed on her last two outings but John Oxx's filly would rate a massive player on both her two-year-old form and also her narrow defeat to Finsceal Beo back in May. Mike De Kock's Irridescence is a bit of an 'unknown'; her Nad Al Sheba form is hard to weigh up however the feeling is that she would need to improve on what she has done so far. Simply Perfect, Sweet Lily, Bahia Breeze look outclassed at this level, and so we will return (possibly with as much heart as head) to Speciosa as the selection.
