In depth

Verdict

While he may ultimately be suited by further, Man Of Letters seems to have been found a suitable opportunity to open his account and is taken to do so at the main expense of Canadian Storm and Trench Coat. The last mentioned has shown promise in all four starts so far but the stable of Andrew Balding has yet to get into top gear this term and he is probably best watched. James Given's Crathes found just Capetown Girl too good on her Pontefract debut last month and should have learned from the experience but the form of that race does not look anything special and a bigger threat may come from Canadian Storm. Mark Tompkins team could hardly be in better form so lack of fitness is unlikely to be a problem although the son of With Approval needs to step up on juvenile form to trouble Man Of Letters. Mark Johnston's colt has indicated that this trip is short of what is ideally needed in defeat in handicaps at Beverley and over course and distance in his last two starts but the opposition here looks moderate and Man Of Letters can gain an overdue first success.
