In depth

Verdict

Although you'd not often risk the mortage on Towcester form, Read All About it won well there last time and can make it two wins in succession in this race for trainer Jonjo O'Neill, with Millards Lad, Blue Sovereign and Keltic Lord other uo for debate. Read All About it gets in at the lower end of this compressed handicap and was making just his second start in the Britain when a decisive winner in May. This trip clearly suits and there may well be more to come from him now that his trainer seems to have got him right. Millards Lad is in good form with a win at Newton Abbot last month before a Bangor run on Friday which had not been contested by the time this preview was written. Whatever the outcome there he enjoys a sound surface and can go well if turning up here, but top weight just puts us off. Keltic Lord won over 2m 7f here in 2005 but was hammered by Millards Lad at Newton Abbot and needs a further drop in the weights to be competitive, and the same goes for Ad Murum. Blue Sovereign broke his duck at Uttoxeter last time and with John Spearing's yard going really well, even with a 10lb rise his chance is respected, but preference is for Read All About It who can follow up his Towcester victory.
