In depth

Verdict

This novices' contest looks a fair bit stronger than the one that precedes it with short list material being Browneyes Blue, Sabre Hongrois, Kilroissanty plus recent winners Double Deputy and Ruby Dante and we just give the vote to Browneyes Blue. Jimmy Moffatt's gelding backed up an easy Cartmel success in May with a repeat back at that track a couple of weeks ago. The latter success saw him beat Kings Euro, who has since come out and won at Uttoxeter, so he looks rock solid, gets on well with his claimer, and can give weight away all around and complete the hat-trick. Sabre Hongrois looks strong in opposition. David Pipe's runner has been in fine form since the spring with wins over shorter than this at both Hereford and Newton Abbot, but the latter win suggested he will relish this step up in trip so he has to be a big danger. James Bay returns fresh from a break after a selling win at Wetherby in the spring. More is required here, while Ruby Dante is 7lb better off with Kilrossanty for beating that rival at Uttoxeter in May and should be able to confirm that form here. The win by The Big Canadian at Wincanton reads well in the context of this race but he was slammed last time and has a bit to prove, while Double Deputy won over c&d last time but is not the most consistent sort and preference is for Browneyes Blue to complete the hat-trick.
