In depth

Verdict

The Tall Guy can bounce back after a small break, with Un Jour A Vassey, Tribal Dancer and Renvyle all interesting contenders. The Tall Guy has been off since being pulled up in softish ground at Warwick in March, but will have the good ground he needs for his return to a track that has been kind to him in the past. The Nigel Twiston-Davies inmate gained back-to-back successes at the Shropshire track last season, having earlier won at Newbury. The slightly longer trip here is not seen as a problem, and it must be remembered that he had the class to beat Intersky Falcon on his bumper debut at Ayr three years ago. There is still time for him to improve further and he should go well here in receipt of so much weight from Un Jour A Vassy. The latter was third in a competitive event at Aintree on the Friday of the Grand National meeting, but the welter burden of 11st 12lb will make his task that bit harder. Tribal Dancer is a course winner so must be respected, and Renvyle has the assistance of Tony McCoy so cannot be left out of calculations. Proper Squire is an out-and-out stayer and has his fair share of weight, so The Tall Guy appears to be the percentage call.
