In depth

Verdict

Quite a few of these with previous experience have been hard to win with up to press so it may be worth siding with James Fanshawe's newcomer Rachel's Verdict, who has been found a weak race to kick-start her career. Piccleyes and Innstyle have been very expensive to follow so it could pay to give seasonal debutante Ragged Man the benefit of the doubt as the best of the rest. The form of his yard could hardly make for worse reading at the moment though as they are yet to have a winner on turf since the start of the season. Gerard Butler has sent out plenty of runners that have been placed though, and Ragged Man will not need to have improved much over the winter to at least make the frame here. That said, Fanshawe has always been noted for his meticulous planning with his fillies and he rarely wastes an opportunity to exploit the chances when they arise. Therefore we prefer to side with the potential of Rachel's Daughter this time around. This Royal Applause filly is a half-sister to a handful of winners in the United States and, with her yard already having a strike-rate in excess of 30 %, she has plenty in her favour to make a victorious first visit to a racecourse in tonight's event.
