In depth

Verdict

Piano Player is just preferred over Participation, while Surely Truly is rated as the main threat from the rest. The last named is from a yard that has an enviable record in claimers at this course and a market move for Karl Burke's charge will be very dangerous to ignore. The fitting of a visor for the first time will need to spark a revival in his fortunes and, with the step up in trip being an unknown factor, he may be best watched on this occasion. Participation has a leading chance on the official figures for the race and has to be respected accordingly. He won a similar contest at Leicester six days ago and is obviously in good heart. The drop back to a mile should not be a problem for him and he is expected to make this a good test. However, Piano Player is a previous course and distance winner that drops into a claimer for the first time here. As he cost 46,000gns as a foal, early expectations must have been a good deal higher for this son of Mozart. Still, he can use this as a confidence booster and is one to keep tabs on for the time being. He is also down to run at Beverley in the middle of next week.
