In depth

Verdict

Mr Sandicliffe shaped like a future winner on his debut here, and should be hard to beat, with John Claude, Hot and Yasood expected to give him most to do. Barry Hills must have been pleased with Mr Sandicliffe's debut effort here a fortnight ago as he made the more experienced Scooby Dude pull out all the stops before giving best close home. Although another furlong would not come amiss on that effort, he should be a leading player here and holds John Claude at least on course form, the latter finishing in third place when sent off favourite in the aforementioned race two weeks ago. Hot attracted plenty of support at Bath but disappointed in the heavy ground and may do better here and is respected, while Yasoodd, who has plenty of entries over the next few days, is sure to know his job, given the record of his stable with juveniles. Mr Sandicliffe has been pencilled in for the Weatherbys Super Sprint and St Leger Yearling Stakes though, and so defeat today will be a bitter pill to swallow for connections.
