In depth

Verdict

Cedar Mountain can make a winning debut at the expense of Many Volumes, with Manbar also worth noting for the future. Cedar Mountain has yet to see the racecourse, and it is interesting that John Gosden finally unleashes him at the age of four. Owned by George Strawbridge, the son of Galileo can boast the Derby winner Generous in the family tree on the dam's side, and may be capable of winning a Listed race before time catches up with him. Best of the younger brigade may be Many Volumes who was a beaten favourite on his second and final juvenile start at Newmarket last July. Entered for both the Dante and Derby, he steps up to a trip more in keeping with his breeding, and with Henry Cecil already in a bit of form, can be expected to put up a bold show. Manbar is also pencilled in for Epsom, and the American-bred is sure to have been well galloped, while Luca Cumani is double-handed with Wing Express and Evita, so the market may reveal which of the pair is the more fancied today. Our faith lies in Cedar Mountain.
