Verdict

The improving Ten A Penny can complete a hat-trick at the expense of Hurlingham and stablemates Mr Napper Tandy and Zahour Al Yasmeen. Ten A Penny was put forward as one to follow by trainer Jamie Osborne long before he made his debut at Wolverhampton in January, and it came as no surprise at all when he duly obliged. What did puzzle some pundits was his generous starting price of 13-2 when the son of Gulch was plunged straight into handicap company at Lingfield just over three weeks ago. Outpaced early on, he produced a smart turn of foot to lead inside the final furlong, shaping as though there is plenty more to come. With that in mind, this step up to class 4 grade should be well within his compass as he bids to make his first visit to Kempton a winning one. He gets 8lb from fellow hat-trick seeker Hurlingham, a previous course-and-distance scorer, and that should be enough to see off that rival at least. Mr Napper Tandy and Zahour Al Yasmeen were both very promising juveniles, but are both likely to need the run, as is My Learned Friend. Nevertheless it still looks a good little contest, with all of the eight runners having already tasted success, and the one with the most scope could well turn out to be Ten A Penny.
