Verdict

Like most of the races on the Haydock card there is a disappointing turnout for the opening race on the card with just the six runners declared to face the starter. Mary Reveley's Supreme Fortune returns to this company having been well beaten behind stablemate Maceo at Wetherby last time. However, his overall form suggests that the eight-year-old may not be up to giving weight away all round. David Wintle's Minella Storm has his first start over hurdles in two years and may not have enough speed against these rivals, while Meadows Bay is probably best caught fresh. With Rio Real facing a stiff task at the weights and Le Guvnor looking only moderate, this should go to Governor Daniel who gets the TEAMtalk vote. The Ian Williams-trained gelding has been in good form in similar company of late and the 11-year-old need only reproduce recent form to collect.
