Verdict

Samorra, Nicada and Caldra are the three to tentatively shortlist in a maiden where there is virtually no form to go on, and a chance is taken that Sylvester Kirk's Caldra is sharp enough to outpoint the classier bred Samorra. Marcus Tregoning saddles debutant Samorra, and it would be no surprise if she won this as she is classily bred by In The Wings out of a Star Appeal mare. That breeding would suggest though that longer distances would suit and the stable had a disappointing debutant on Wednesday at the track. She is likely to start at a short price and may not represent a betting proposition. At least Gaye Kelleway's Nicada has racecourse experience, but a staying on fourth in a claimer last time may not represent good enough form here. A chance is taken that Sylvester Kirk's Caldra can supply the yard with his first winner for over two weeks. Kirk focuses on producing sprinters, and this son of Elnadim out of a Priolo mare is bred for the job. Caldra is taken to outpace Samorra.
