Verdict

A chance is taken with Ellmau, who edges the vote from Rio de La Planta and Irish raider Lizard Island. The nicely bred Il Warrd is one to keep on the right side for future reference but, as is the case with Donegal, this is a big step up in class today. Lizard Island is a highly regarded type that showed marked improvement to win the railway Stakes at The Curragh last month. He should cope with the cut in the ground but has a stiff test under a penalty. Rio de La Planta almost equalled the juvenile track record over seven furlongs at Newmarket three weeks ago - so obviously has untapped potential. That form has subsequently been franked and this son of Rahy has to be marked down as a likely candidate. However, Ellmau ran a blinder to finish third in the Superlative Stakes at the July Meeting and, as that is arguably the best piece of form on offer, this son of Dr Fong is fancied to strike a blow for smaller operators today.
