Verdict

The final race on the card has a number of potential winners with Cannon Fire looking for a quick fire hat-trick and Colonial Jim a previous course and distance winner, but with Tim Vaughan on a good run of form lately we very tentatively side with PATRIXBOURNE in the first time visor to vastly improve and score a victory. The selection ran poorly when finishing fifth at Bangor last July but coming back from a long break and with the trainer rolling out the winners of late we are going to take a punt and suggest this seven-year-old mare can surprise the market and win. Colonial Jim pulled up last time at this course and was always towards the rear in that race showing none of the ability that he once showed. If returning to that level of performance he cannot be ruled out of consideration. Cannon Fire is on fire at the moment and was utterly ruthless to win at Southwell last time out. This followed a very solid win at Worcester and we think he stands an excellent chance here. However, the handicapper has possibly caught up in this contest and we perhaps foolishly avoid him. We cautiously go each-way with Patrixbourne in this race.
