A very tricky start to the card, but with trainer Brian Meehan and John Gosden having both won this twice in the past decade we should consider Waiter's Dream and Johnny Castle, though DORTMUND gets the nod. Mahmood Al Zaroony has enjoyed a very bright start to his training career and his Dubawi colt went off 10/1 on debut at Haydock, performing very well to be just touched off over a similar trip. That was on fast ground, but his sire also acted with cut, so if the rains persist then he should still be able to travel well enough and his experience can lead to success today. Waiter's Dream is a colt by Oasis Dream, who would probably therefore prefer the rains to stay away. This trip is an ideal starting point and the market should be checked for a guide to his chance, and that of Johnny Castle. The son of Shamardal is related to winners over plenty further than this at three, though he has presumably been showing some of the speed that enabled his dam to win twice over sprint trips as a juvenile and he is respected. Fight The Chance is another son of a 6f two-year-old scorer, while Cult Classic, a Choisir colt with man-of-the-moment Ryan Moore up, and stablemate Welsh Dancer, the mount of Richard Hughes, should both get very competitive. Dortmund is marginally preferred in an informative race.
