In depth

Verdict

Frank Sheridan's Sumner ran better at Kempton earlier this month having disappointed at Doncaster previously and has claims but a better bet looks to be MASLAK, who gets the vote ahead of Amir Pasha. Micky Hammond's gelding has run to a consistent level of form in his last two starts over two miles at Catterick and he has every chance on that evidence but may not appreciate the drop back in trip. Jeff Pearce's Ghufa showed improved form last month with decent efforts at Lingfield, here and at Goodwood and he has claims but is now 4lbs higher than when scoring over course and distance two outings ago and may have to settle for minor honours. Magnitude has a bit to find with Ghufa on running here last month, while Ubi Ace showed little sign of encouragement on his reappearance after a long absence at Beverley last month. The vote then goes the way of Peter Hiatt's Maslak, who has run well in both starts back on turf this season, latterly when a close up second at Windsor and he can go one better today.
