In depth

Verdict

This will be a test and looks competitive into the bargain. Welburn Boy has winning form from a mark of 77 (Feb 2000, now 61) but is not consistent overall. Mr Miller is another whose best career efforts leave him on a fair mark but he has yet to win a race. Robbie's Adventure has won from a higher mark and trip and going will be no problem. Newby End races in a first-time visor, Nickit is lightly raced but well bred for this game, while Jurassic Scratch was just touched off over course and distance last time in first-time cheek pieces. Gallion's Reach is blinkered for the first time (has won from a mark of 80 (now 77). Trumper was keeping on over a shorter trip last time and is capable of making the frame at this level. Lumaca is 3lbs lower than for his Taunton win last January, and the going and trip will present no problems. All of Our Jolly Swagman's wins have come at Plumpton and, overall, he is opposable. Moody Blues original handicap mark was unreasonable but, even from his current one, looks opposable. Dad's Lad has won from 90 (now 89) and, now the blinkers have been reapplied, that will help to make him more competitive. Four Mile Clump won in November and December (from a high of 83, now 89) but, visored for the first time, is entitled to be competitive in a race of this nature. However, in a tricky event, Nickit looks to have a reasonable each-way chance and gets the vote.
