          Verdict

          A tricky opener. Czar Wars is a frustrating horse to follow but managed to score in claiming company under Lisa Jones. He is a little one-paced though and we will look elsewhere now that he is back in handicap company. Double Oscar would have carried these many years back but the ten-year-old looks best avoided until the market speaks in his favour. Jan Brueghel looks a light of his former self. That said, his all-weather debut wasn't a bad one although this contest looks to have more strength in depth. We will go with Larky's Lob. The booking of Kieren Fallon aboard Russ Wilman's charge may well be the factor that converts that un-erring string of seconds into winners. The horse appears to reserve his best form for this track and he looks to be the percentage call. Alastair Smellie could run well at big odds if the application of eye-shields manages to rewake his enthusiasm for the game.
