In depth

Verdict

Top weight Talcen Gwyn makes the most appeal here, with Princely Vale and Evanesce expected to pose the most problems from the rest. Evanesce drops in trip after just failing to get home here last month. Typically for a Mick Channon-trained handicapper, the daughter of Lujain is being kept busy and has now dropped to a more realistic mark after looking well held when rated in the low 70's late last year. Now off a mark of 52, Evanesce should be capable of winning a small race somewhere along the line and she is one to keep tabs on from here. Princely Vale was flattered to get so close to a well-backed favourite last time but did finish clear of the rest. That form has been franked since and Bill Turner's charge can provide the stiffest test this evening. However, Talcen Gwyn acts well on an undulating surface and is in good enough heart at present to give weight and a beating to this lot if he runs his race.
