Verdict

The Sweet Solaria Stakes and Fillies Mile entries for Saabiq are flying high but the daughter of Grand Slam showed enough on her debut to set what standard thee is from those with experience. Mighty Observer, Austrian and Military Cross are newcomers to keep tabs on in the betting. Military Cross is out of a half-sister to the high-class, if frustrating Salselon and can be expected to improve when he tries at least a mile. He is likely to need this but can be placed to good effect in future. Austrian is also likely to need further than this but has to start somewhere and his connections can use this as a learning curve for him. Mighty Observer is related to several fair performers and, being by Observatory, can be expected to relish a battle if he has inherited any of his sire's racing attributes. However, Saabiq has the edge in terms of proven form and, as her debut run received a she boost yesterday, Clive Brittain's charge just edges the vote in the hope that she can at least reward a slice of her trainer's optimistic outlook on life.
