In depth

Verdict

Autumn Glory, a dual Group 3 winner last term, is the class act of the race and, while a penalty may not prevent Geoff Wragg's horse from making a winning return, the lack of cut in the ground may; so preference is for Hurricane Alan, who gets the vote ahead of Putra Pekan. The last mentioned made a winning reappearance at Ascot last year so can run well when fresh, goes on any ground and is well treated on official BHB ratings. The Michael Jarvis-trained seven-year-old makes more appeal than Clive Brittain's Membership, who has been kept busy in Dubai during the winter. The nine-year-old Calcutta is capable on his day but this looks plenty hard enough for him, as it does for John Akehurst's Audience who needs to improve to trouble Hurricane Alan. Richard Hannon's horse was a model of consistency last term winning just the once, in the Group 2 Betfred.com Mile at Sandown, but reaching the frame in seven of his other 10 starts. The selection has 3lbs in hand over Putra Pekan on official ratings and is taken to make the most of the favourable terms.
